NEW YORK—After watching Shen Yun Performing Arts at the David H. Koch Theater at the Lincoln Center on Thursday night, Jan. 12, director and global head of Platform and Games Partnerships at YouTube, Francisco Varela said, “The show was very entertaining. Very, very colorful.”

“It was impressive the way they jumped, the way they danced,” Mr. Varela said. The talent and flexibility of the dancers struck him.

Shen Yun presents mainly classical Chinese dance which “entails systematic training in movements and postures, as well as very difficult jumping and tumbling techniques,” making it one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world, according to Shen Yun.

“I learned something about Chinese culture, so I’m very happy,” he said.

The New York-based company presents 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture. As Shen Yun’s hosts explain to the audience, this year’s program features a “good versus evil” theme found in portrayals of ancient Chinese legends to more serious themes of beliefs being persecuted in present-day China.

“The dances that represent the current situation in China are a little bit sad,” said Mr. Varela.

“But I really like it and I really enjoy it.”

New York-based Shen Yun has three companies touring the world. Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company will perform at New York’s Lincoln Center through Jan. 15.
