YouTube was apparently down on Monday afternoon, suffering from an internal server error.

It appears the website is up for many users now.

“Sorry, something went wrong,” the error message read. “A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation. If you see them, show them this information” before it spits out a stream of numbers and letters.

The outage appeared to take place at around 5:30 p.m. EST.

In a statement to CNBC, YouTube said that “some people are encountering errors, or slower than normal experience on YouTube. We’re working on the problem.”

The website downforeveryoneorjustme.com said that “It’s not just you! http://youtube.com looks down from here.”

A number of users complained on Twitter about the matter, but some reported that the front page was up, and they could successfully play videos.

“You know you’re addicted to youtube when you’re full on taking a fit because its down!” one wrote.

Wrote another: “YouTube is down I don’t know what to do.”

Story is developing...
