The city of Wuhan has been placed under a lockdown for more than 40 days, even so, more and more residents are getting infected.
A WeChat user videotaped an audio conversation with a female friend who recently got infected with the virus when she went grocery shopping a week ago. She needed to replenish rice, vegetables and cooking oil supplies after staying at home for nearly a month.
“I went to that hospital yesterday. As I arrived late in the afternoon, at about 6 p.m., I did CT scan and blood test only. Both tests showed I have viral infections, viral pneumonia. However, this hospital only performs gene sequencing tests from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. So I have not done a gene sequencing test yet. Staff from my community office arranged to have me quarantined at Hubei University Zhixing College dorm last night. It is in a suburban area. The hospital here cannot perform gene sequencing tests.“
”My main symptom is having difficulty breathing. (Although I haven’t had the final diagnosis), lung infections are confirmed. I started to have difficulty breathing three days ago, but I did not take it seriously initially, because I basically stayed at home for nearly a month.“
“One week ago I went out, because I was running out of food. I went downstairs to get rice, vegetables, eggs, and cooking oil, back and forth several times. I didn’t feel anything when I finished shopping, however, three days ago, I felt my chest was tight. It got worse yesterday and I almost passed out at home. Even as I called the 120 emergency line, my hands were shaking and I could not see the text on my cell phone screen clearly. Then I was sent to that hospital for a physical exam. Now I am waiting for the community office to transfer me to another hospital for treatment, and to get a gene sequencing test.”
“I could not sleep at all last night at the quarantine site. It was not because I was nervous, it was because I had a fever, and shortness of breath, my whole body felt numb. The staff at our community office told me my symptoms belong to the seriously-ill category. I even felt as if my blood vessels were about to explode. I have difficulty breathing, and my heartbeat is very fast, I could hear it, “Tong...Tong...Tong…”, just like this. I am still at the quarantine site, waiting for the arrangement from my community office.”
“I didn’t sleep at all last night. I don’t have any acquaintances within my community. I got infected simply through going downstairs to pick up the delivery. I simply went downstairs, picked items up, and went back upstairs. About a week ago, I had deliveries several days in a row. I also replenished drinking water and went to A compound to get propane gas. I traveled across A, B, and C compounds in those several days, and that was it.”
“I would blame myself for being too greedy. For more than 20 days, I did not join any social media group for food ordering, and I consumed all the food I had at home. Then, with much difficulty, I joined a food ordering group. I should have felt content when I received my food orders. However, when I had some vegetables, I craved fruits. After I had fruits, I wanted to buy cooking oil and stock up rice that can last for a month. As for fruits, after I had mandarins, I also wanted to eat strawberries. Later I also craved hot and dry noodles. So it was through my craving that I harmed myself. With such craving, I did not take the coronavirus seriously enough. Also, I had not heard of any infections within our community, and I thought there were no patients in our community. In our social media group, no one ever told me if there are patients in our community. Otherwise, I would not have made so many trips downstairs to pick up the food items. ”
Chinese netizens noticed an unprecedented level of internet blockade in the past several days. It is getting more and more difficult to hear the real personal stories from Wuhan residents. This newly released video is therefore very precious.
