Woman slaps deputy: A woman is accused of slapping a police deputy in California so that she could go to jail, which would then force her to quit smoking cigarettes.

Authorities said that 31-year-old Etta Lopez slapped Sacramento County Deputy Matt Campoy on Wednesday as he lift his jail shift, reported CBS Sacramento.

“It was totally unprovoked,” Campoy told the station. “She stepped into me and slapped me in the face.”

Lopez was arrested on the spot.

“She told us that she needed to quit smoking,” Campoy said. “She explained it with great detail as to why.

According to CNN, Lopez said she waited in front of the jail for hours to slap an officer.

Kimberly Bankston-Lee with anti-smoking organization Breathe California told the network there are better ways to quit smoking.

Lopez was charged with assaulting an officer.
