An elderly couple formed a special bond with their teen neighbor who visits them every day and helps out with errands. Their daughter shared photos on Facebook, along with a message expressing gratitude towards a young man’s selfless acts of kindness; her post went viral for all the right reasons and warmed hearts all over the internet.
According to Edwards, the young man not only checks in on the elderly couple every day but also does odd jobs for them regularly. The teenager accompanies her dad to do his groceries, helps carry the bags inside, mows their lawn, and does “whatever they may need.” The woman states that Mitchell “has grown to love and care for them deeply.”
Edwards acknowledges, “Not many 15-year-olds would take the time to care and be there for elderly neighbors.” Which is what makes this relationship so notable—a teenager, of his own accord, taking it upon himself to aid members of his community.
At the time of posting, Mrs. Joiner had been hospitalized. Mitchell went to visit her and upon seeing her bedridden began crying and holding her tightly. The photos of the interaction are incredibly touching, and they show how strong the bond between the teenager and the older couple truly is.
Edwards decided to share the photos and recognize the young man’s efforts, saying that she “wanted to pass on something heartwarming instead of the sad news we see and hear every day.”
The post warmed many hearts. It was shared over 100,000 times on the social media platform and garnered over 200,000 likes and 30,000 comments from users commending the teenager and his actions.
One Facebook user called the young man an “angel on Earth.”
While another comment read, “You’re 1 in a million sweet one. You keep on caring. You’re doing what all young people need to do. What a great spirit you have. I know they must love you a lot.”
“A beautiful and exciting story. In the days of today, it is difficult to find young people so much less than neighbors like this ... The gesture of this little boy should give us an opportunity to reflect on what we have become and what we should do to make our cohabitation truly human. May God bless this young man, who instead of playing at PlayStation or whatever, creates time to help those in need. And what do we do for our neighbor?”
