Woman finds $36,000: A woman found $36,000 in cash at a golf course in Miami Beach but did the honest thing: she returned it.
Rachel Castillo, who serves drinks at the Miami Beach Golf Club, found the cash in a bag that was left in January, according to WSVN television.
She told police that inside the bag was identification that showed the money belonged to a 76-year-old man.
“Easy money is not good money, you know?” she told the station. “I was really freaking out a little bit.”
“If you do what’s right, if you live the right way, you'll be taken care of ... if you do what’s right,” she added, citing that when she was a child, she was told not to steal.
Miami Beach Police Sgt. Bobby Hernandez said the man is living at an assisted living facility.
“He might have a medical condition. That’s undetermined. We are in touch with the family members getting more information, but we have identified that money as his through different transactions that he made. But it’s nice that there’s people out there ... $36,000 is what a lot of people make a year,” he said.
NBC Miami noted that if no one had claimed the money within 90 days, the cash could have been hers.
“We really don’t know how the money ended up there,” Hernandez said. “He left it there at some point.”
