The market offers fresh produce and specialty products; it also includes a barber shop, natural remedies, oils, and souvenirs.
The market has been an important part of the community for over 40 years. To the locals, the market is known as La Marqueta.
“This is an icon of our community, the structure resembles history, it resembles what immigration was in this nation, and how we transformed ourselves and welcomed so many followers looking for the American dream,” said Reyna when talking about the importance of the Moore Street Market.
“This is my old neighborhood, this is my home,” added Reyna.
The check of $500,000, provided by federal funds, will provide funding to rejuvenate La Marqueta and to make it a successful model of a thriving neighborhood beacon.
“The market of where we will see specialty goods, services that will break the walls of any diversity that differentiates us from one another, but rather uses the market to share our commonalities, our love of cuisine, where you need a specialty good you’ll find it here because this will be the market that will provide you with that specialty good,” said Reyna.
Virigilio Rodriguez, president of the Merchants Association and owner of Ramonita Restaurant, was delighted about the allocation.
“This is a great day for every merchant because this is the day that we have the funds to start.”
