Will.i.am Sings “What I Am” on Sesame StreetWill.i.am is helping kick off Sesame Street’s 41st season by singing his original song What I Am in a music video for the PBS children’s show.

Will.i.am may have caused a wave of controversy over his “blackface” performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, but this appearance on Sesame Street guarantees to be less polarizing.

In the music video, will.i.am sings playfully, “If what I am is what’s in me, then I’ll stay strong that’s who I’ll be,” presumably sending a message to kids on the value of individuality and self-assurance. Singing and dancing with him include popular Sesame Street characters Big Bird, Elmo, Grover, the Cookie Monster, Bert, and Ernie.

Sesame Street premieres Sept. 27 on PBS KIDS. Will.i.am is scheduled to appear on the Sept. 28 episode called The Happy Scientists.
