Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, said that a “wide range of material” about Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee will be leaked.
“It covers a number of important issues,” Assange told PBS in an interview on Wednesday Aug. 4, without elaborating. “There’s a variety of natural batches and some thematic constellations that we’re working on.”
Last month, WikiLeaks released more than 20,000 DNC emails, leading to the resignation of its chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The emails revealed that DNC officials actively strategized with the Clinton campaign against Senator Bernie Sanders.
He also revealed the source of the some of the leaks.
“I can reveal to you the source of the information today. The source of the information is the Democratic Party. It is Debbie Wasserman Schultz. It is the chief financial officer. It is the communications officer, Luis Miranda, in fact all these people who have just been fired,” he said, adding that he would not reveal “who the intermediaries are.”
Assange also lambasted media outlets’ so-called “McCarthyist” fervor to “attempt to frame [Donald] Trump as some kind of Russian conspirator.”
“I think both presidential candidates are extremely problematic. But a kind of McCarthyist hysteria, trying to depict one of the candidates as somehow a Manchurian Candidate, I think is a bit disturbing. And then also a push for journalists to reveal their sources, as a journalist, it’s disgusting,” he said.
Assange also wouldn’t describe what new leaks WikiLeaks has planned.
“It’s interesting material. We have done enough work now that we are comfortable with the material’s authenticity. And so now it’s a matter of completing the format, layout to make it easy and accessible and so that journalists can easily extract material from it, extract stories from it, and also the general public,” he told the broadcaster.
He added: “We’re working on it. We obviously want it to be a bit of a surprise, because it encourages public uptake and interest, which is what all — all material seeks.”
In another interview with RT, Assange said that allegations Russian intelligence was behind the DNC hack are purely circumstantial.
“There are claims that in the metadata after someone has done a document to PDF conversion and in some cases, the documents—the language of the computer that was used for that conversion, was Russian,” he told RT.
