Two teenage girls have spoken out about the moment a 10-year-old boy was killed on the Verrückt waterslide in Kansas on Aug 7.

Caleb Schwab, 10, was decapitated in the accident at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City, Kansas, a source told The Associated Press. Officials have not been able to explain how it happened.

Two teenage girls described how they watched as the boy was killed. Jess Sanford and Melanie Gocke from Lincoln, Nebraska, said they saw a trail of blood after he was thrown from the ride into the net.

Two unidentified women were also injured in the ride on Sunday afternoon, the Hays Daily News reported. Both women were hospitalized following the incident before they were released to specialists.

“We feel really bad for his family,” a husband of one of the women told the paper. They requested Hays Daily News that they remain anonymous.

Caleb’s parents, Republican state Rep. Scott Schwab and his wife Michele, haven’t yet spoken out about the boy’s death. Caleb’s funeral is slated for Friday. The man said that his wife got eight stitches and suffered a broken jaw.

The Verrückt, which means “insane” in German, opened last year and features rafts that drop 168 feet at speeds of up to 70 mph.
