The defensive player of the year in 2012, Mavericks center Tyson Chandler is of course known for his defense.
In his first season back with the Mavericks, Chandler has maintained his emphasis on defense, averaging 11.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks.
The reason why Chandler is such a dominant defensive player?
He “blocks” not only basketballs, but teams from seeing any kind of advantage, no matter how minor.
In a bizarre chain of events(video shown above), at the :14 second mark, Warriors forward Marreese Speights first lost his shoe.
At the :16 second mark, the shoe then gets catapulted to the other end of the court by Stephen Curry.
Then, two full possessions later at the :45 second mark, the shoe resurfaces at mid-court, so Stephen Curry picks it up and tosses to his teammate.
But little did he know that defensive guru Tyson Chandler foresaw what was coming and was there to swat it away(:47 mark), maintaining the 10-9 shoe advantage for his team. The crowd then erupts into a frenzy.
“That is defense; what an anchor!” - commentary on Chandler’s shoe block at 1:32.
