Protesters donned the movie prop on Nov. 5 to take part in the Million Mask March, an international event to commemorate Guy Fawkes Day that is organized by the hacktivist group Anonymous.
“Now being hailed ‘The Most Influential Group in the World,’ Anonymous has caught the passionate attention of millions. With our annual Nov. 5th global event known as Million Mask March (in commemoration of Guy Fawkes Day), we have for the last two consecutive years organized ‘The Largest World Protest,’” the group explains on their website.
In the Wachowski’s movie, V is a freedom fighter seeking to take down a totalitarian British government in a fictional future dystopia.
