The NBA’s reigning MVP finished with 46 points as he also attempts to win his second straight MVP award this season, putting him in exclusive company—only 14 players have won more than one.
Curry is the odds-on favorite to win it this season. The 27-year-old shooting guard has already broken his own single-season three-point record with 288—with 24 games still to go. At an average of five threes made per game, Curry could smash the old record and reach 400 on the season—at a time when no one else has hit more than 270.
Meanwhile he’s improved his scoring average from 23.8 per game last year to an NBA-leading 30.7 this season. The sharpshooter has also hit more than 50 percent (51.8) of his field goals overall, while connecting on 46.8 percent of his threes, and 90.8 percent of his free throws.
Meanwhile his Warriors are on pace to win a record 74 games by a full two wins.
Despite the historic pace, Golden State is only ahead of the San Antonio Spurs by 3.5 games, through Feb. 28. The 50–9 Spurs have benefited from signing free agent big man LaMarcus Aldridge last summer, which has allowed the team to rest the soon-to-be 40-year-old power forward Tim Duncan.
