“Watch Dogs,” coming out later in May, is expected to sell more than 6 million copies, according to reports this week.
IGN reported that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said his company is targeting 6.3 million copies to be shipped off and sold. He shared the number during a conference call on Thursday.
“Watch Dogs’ preorders are at record levels and it is perfectly positioned to become the industry’s most successful new IP in history,” he said, according to GameSpot.
Watch Dogs will come out May 27 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.
Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez also chimed in, saying that “Watch Dogs” could become a brand to be reckoned with.
“Very clearly, the priority today is to release the game, and make it a success,” Martinez said, according to GameSpot. “Of course we believe it has the power and the potential to become a longstanding brand for Ubisoft.”
“At this stage we don’t have any announcements to make to say whether it’s going to be one, two, or three years. I think at first we have to care about making it a success,” he added.
There’s also been very strong pre-order sales.
Ubisoft Senior VP of Sales and Marketing Tony Key told PlayStation Lifestyle: “These strong pre-orders are a clear indication of players’ anticipation and excitement forWatch Dogs. The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that players will enjoy a top quality game with enormous scope, and we can’t wait to get the game into their hands.”
And GameStop Senior VP of Merchandising Bob Puzon added, "based on the current level of customer pre-orders we have received, Watch Dogs is the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date and most pre-ordered new IP of the year.”
