Cam Newton posted a photo to Instagram of himself playing water polo two days ago, and so Von Miller, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, photo-shopped himself to appear as if he was strip-sacking the Panthers quarterback the next day.
If that scenario sounds familiar it’s because Miller strip-sacked the regular season MVP Newton twice in Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, as he single-handedly was the difference in the Broncos 24–10 win over the Panthers. Here’s Newton’s original Instagram from two days ago:
Here’s Newton’s photo-shopped version, posted the next day.
In that infamous Super Bowl performance, Miller’s forced fumble on a sack of Newton in the first quarter was recovered by teammate Malik Jackson in the end zone for a touchdown that put Denver on top of Carolina 10–0. Then late in the fourth, with the Broncos ahead 16–10, Miller again forced a fumble on a sack of Newton that gave the Broncos the ball first and goal at the four-yard line.
Three plays later, C. J. Anderson ran it in from two yards out for the score. On the ensuing two-point conversion, Peyton Manning found Bennie Fowler in the end zone to put Denver up by 14.

Even without Newton getting strip-sacked twice by Miller near the Broncos’ end zone, the dual-threat quarterback never seemed comfortable in the pocket—Denver’s aggressive pass rush clearly had him out of sorts. Newton finished just 18/41 passing for 265 yards, no TDs, and an interception.
