“I can see it as an artist, I can see it as someone that draws … the rhythms, shapes, planes, volumes. I think it’s all rather wonderful, really,” Mr. Robert Berry said.

SYDNEY—“I do feel invigorated,” visual artist Robert Berry said during the intermission of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Capitol Theatre on Feb. 12.

“I get a really good feeling from the environment,” Mr. Berry said. As an artist who studies environment, order, and chaos, Mr. Berry felt drawn to the classical Chinese dance movements.

New York-based Shen Yun’s dancers are trained in classical Chinese dance, which is built on 5,000 years of traditional aesthetics, according to Shen Yun’s website. “China’s deep cultural traditions are contained in classical Chinese dance, allowing its movements to be richly expressive, such that the personalities and feelings of characters can be portrayed with unparalleled clarity.”

Through music and dance, Shen Yun seeks to revive the traditional Chinese culture that was once almost lost, according to its mission statement.

“The different types of dance all tends to blend to say the same things but in different ways,” Mr. Berry said.

“I can see it as an artist, I can see it as someone that draws … the rhythms, shapes, planes, volumes. I think it’s all rather wonderful, really,” Mr. Berry said.
