An earthquake hit in Virginia on Wednesday night.

The extremely shallow quake, which hit at a depth of 0.7 miles and measured at an intensity of 3.2, was centered eight miles southwest of Powhatan.

The U.S. Geological Service also said that it was 21 miles west of Brandermill, 27 miles west-southwest of Short Pump, 27 miles west of Bon Air, and 32 miles west of Richmond.

The quake hit at about 9:45 p.m. EDT.

Local broadcaster WBTV said that “many viewers” called into the station to report that they had felt tremors.

Some people took to Twitter to report what happened.

“On #Virginia #earthquake my dog went nuts BEFORE the quake. FYI,” said one.

“Gotta love Virginia. First all four seasons in one day now we have an earthquake. Yay! A baby quake, just a 3.2,” said another.

Some people speculated that because the quake was so shallow it could have been caused by fracking.
