A routine traffic stop for speeding turned out to be much, much more.
Maine State Police Trooper Doug Cropper said he pulled a man over who was in the process overdosing.
“I noticed his head was back up against the head rest, mouth open, and he didn’t look like he was breathing, And he was actually discolored,” Cropper said, according to WMTW.
Cropper said he used Narcan, a drug that is used to counter the effects of opiate overdoses, to save the man’s life. “When I got the subject out of the car and on the ground, an ER nurse from Southern Maine Medical stopped and came in and started helping me with the CPR and took over when I got tired,” Cropper added.
Cooper said the man was happy he helped him out before he was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
“He thanked me,” Cropper added. “He told me he needs a kick in the head and I said ‘Hopefully this is the kick you get.’”
