VANCOUVER, Canada—Inflatable Mounties and giant beavers paraded into B.C. Place during the closing ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games.
Mixed into the spectacle of hit acts that followed were also some with sardonic twists on the icons of Canada. Mounties in mini-skirts and singers in hockey shirts, there was a lot of what Canada “is” in the show, and a lot of having fun with what people think it is.
There was also a hit parade of mega-star musicians and an earthquake of foot stomping that forced John Furlong, head of the Vancouver Olympic organizing committee, to take a long pause in his speech when he happened to mention the men’s gold-medal hockey game.
