The Orlando Magic have parted ways with coach Stan Van Gundy and GM Otis Smith, the team announced Monday, according to a report on the NBA’s website.
“On behalf of the DeVos family, we sincerely appreciate and thank Otis and Stan for all that they have done on and off the floor for the Orlando Magic,” said Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins. “These are the days you dread in this business, but we feel it’s time for new leadership and new voices.”
Van Gundy had been head coach since 2007, compiling a 259-135 record in five seasons at the helm. His high point was a trip to the NBA Finals in 2009 where the Magic lost to the Lakers.
Otis Smith was named GM in 2006 after serving as assistant GM in 2005–2006. In 2010, Smith was promoted to president of Basketball Operations.
