With Thanksgiving now behind us, the holiday season kicks off. Expect some spectacular television broadcasts this month. There are several notable events happening this week:
It’s not Christmas until there is an appearance from the Peanuts gang. Get your annual seasonal classic Dec. 2 as “A Charlie Brown Christmas” airs at 8 p.m. on ABC.
Following that, at 9 p.m., ABC will have a holiday kick-off concert for all you country music enthusiasts. Trace Adkins, Luke Bryan, Sheryl Crow, Jake Owen, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker, Mary J. Blige, and Rascal Flatts will be joining host Jennifer Nettles for the “CMA Country Christmas” special.
Lady Antebellum, Travis Tritt, Dwight Yoakam, and a lineup of country singers will also be in Nashville, for “CMT Artists of the Year 2013” which airs this Dec. 3rd, 8 p.m. on CMT.
This Tuesday also cues the return of the popular and entertaining show, “What Would You Do?”, the series that features real people faced with tricky situations, their actions all captured with hidden cameras. The new season will air on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
The landmark concert event that marks the official holiday season will take place this Wednesday as Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson and Jewel perform favorite holiday songs on “Christmas in Rockefeller Center,” which also features the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. The concert airs live at 8 p.m. on NBC.
“Mob City” is the new series set to air on TNT. The anticipated series premieres this Wednesday, Dec. 4 after a heavily resourced social media campaign to build suspense. The show’s creator, Frank Darabont, also the brains behind the popular show, “The Walking Dead,” has been releasing the script of the first episode in a stream of Twitter messages, leaving out just the ending. The show is centered around Los Angeles mobsters in the 1940s. The six-part series will be airing in the span of three weeks, consisting of two consecutive hour-long episodes each week.
This will be the week that fans and critics get to watch the final product of “The Sound of Music” remake that generated more than just buzz. Carrie Underwood, Audra McDonald, and Stephen Moyer will be performing the musical remake live after months of rehearsals. “The Sound of Music Live!” will air this Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
The holidays are a great time to be thankful for what we have and to give back to the community. Comedians such as Lewis Black and Zach Galifianakis put a new spin on giving back by teaching wounded war veterans on how to do stand-up comedy in “Comedy Warriors: Healing Through Humor,” which airs 8 p.m. on Showtime this Thursday.
What rules do gangsters live by? This Saturday, Dec. 7, former mobster Lou Ferrante will be your behind-the-scenes guide to the criminal world in “Inside the Gangsters’ Code,” which will be airing at 9, 10, and 11 p.m. on Discovery.
