Tsarnaev wife refuses to talk: The wife of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev has stopped communicating with police after federal authorities’ skepticism that she had no idea what Tsarnaev was up to.
The New York Times reported that Katherine Russell in recent days stopped cooperating with authorities in the investigation. Russell has denied having any involvement in the bombing, and she has said she only learned about her husband’s suspected role in the attack when police initiated a manhunt for him.
Tsarnaev allegedly called Russell after pictures of him and brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were released by the FBI
Authorities took a DNA sample from Russell and they determined that it did not match the DNA that was found on fragments of one of the pressure cooker bombs that went off at the marathon, killing three people and wounding more than 200, reported CBS News.
Russell is not a suspect and has not been charged in connection with the case.
CBS News reported that while Russell stopped cooperating, it appears that she is relying on her lawyers to communicate with the authorities.
The FBI was investigating the final phone call between Tsarnaev and Russell, and want to see what information--if any--was relayed to her.
“It’s going to be a ‘what did she know and when did she know it’ thing. What they really want to know from her is here’s a woman who dated Tamerlan, who converted to Islam after they were married who, you know, lived in the same apartment,” said CBS News correspondent Jim Miller.
