Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski will not be prosecuted on battery charges for allegedly grabbing the arm of reporter Michelle Fields, reports Politico.
Fields had filed a police report against Lewandowski, alleging that he grabbed and bruised her arm at a Trump campaign event in March, and even threw her down to the ground.
Her accusations were a flashpoint in the media circuit, and many called on Trump to fire Lewandowski, while others said that her charges were overblown and exaggerated.
“We have a higher standard to go forward with a prosecution,” Palm Beach County State Attorney David Aronberg told Politico last week.
Fields had resigned from her position at Breitbart, which is considered a pro-Trump publication, after the incident, saying her company failed to stand by her during the controversy. Six of her colleagues also resigned near that time.
“If you asked people to describe a battery, this certainly wouldn’t cut it. No injury, no damage, no nothing,” veteran Miami criminal defense lawyer David Oscar Markus told Politico. “Jeb Bush has a better claim for battery against Trump after those debates than this reporter does against Lewandowski.”
