President Trump’s re-election campaign responded to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s assertion that House Democrats are moving forward on an inquiry to impeach him, saying it will lead the way to a “landslide victory.”
Brad Parscale, the Trump 2020 campaign manager, said that since Democrats can’t beat Trump on his policies, they have to use different tactics.
And on Twitter, he said Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) announcement will pave the way for a “landslide victory” in 2020 for Trump.
On Thursday, the speaker alleged Trump “seriously violated the Constitution,” saying that the House is “moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry.”
“I am currently at the United Nations representing our Country, but have authorized the release tomorrow of the complete, fully declassified and unredacted transcript of my phone conversation with President Zelensky of Ukraine,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
The call with Zelensky, he added, was “very friendly and totally appropriate.”
There was “no pressure and, unlike Joe Biden and his son, NO quid pro quo! This is nothing more than a continuation of the Greatest and most Destructive Witch Hunt of all time!” the president wrote.
House Intelligence Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on Tuesday said the person who filed a complaint against Trump over the July 25 phone call with Zelensky wants to meet with Congress.
What Is Impeachment?
The founders of the United States included impeachment as part of of the U.S. Constitution, saying the House has “the sole power of impeachment“ while the Senate has the ”sole power to try all impeachments.” The chief justice of the Supreme Court, meanwhile, will preside over impeachment trials in the Senate, according to the U.S. Senate’s website.A sitting president can be removed for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors,” according to the site.
