Many a media are speculating the possible cast ensemble for the next season of HBO mystery drama “True Detective.” Since the two leads from the first series, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson already confirmed that they will not return, there are two important spots to fill in the series.

First strong speculation was Brad Pitt to play Rust Cohle, although his name has not been confirmed. Then names like Emma Stone, Kate Mara, and Ellen Page came up.

In an interview with Vogue, Stone said she would jump on board the “True Detective” train, if given the chance. “That would be amazing. I would do True Detective with Kristen Wiig in a heartbeat,” she told the magazine.

“I think @KatherynWinnick would be a great #TrueDetective“ tweeted an unofficial fan account @TD_HBO.

Winnick is best known for her role in the History Channel series “Vikings” and numerous other roles in film and on television.

In terms of the plot, there have been speculations that the upcoming season will not be a murder mystery, but “follow a similar plot of detective after an elusive criminal,” reported Enstarz.

Creator of the series, Nic Pizzalotto also hinted at the possibility of the second series being set in Southern California.

“All kinds of conspiracies suggest themselves. Especially if, like me, you’ve been reading about the last 40 years of Southern California government,” Pizzalotto told Buzzfeed in March.

The series has an impressive 9.4 rating on IMDb, however, no release date.
