Tropical Storm Fiona formed east of the Leeward Islands Monday afternoon, according to a National Hurricane Advisory issued at 5 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time on Monday.
Located about 890 miles (1435 km) east of the Leeward Islands, the storm is traveling west at 24 mph with maximum sustained winds at 40 mph. It is expected to turn toward the west-northwest on Tuesday, followed by a turn toward the northwest on Wednesday.
On its forecast track, Fiona could pass near or just to the northeast of the northern Leeward Islands by early Wednesday.
