The birthday of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen who was shot and killed in February 2012, was observed on Wednesday.
Martin was born Feb. 5, 1995, meaning he would have been 19.
His birthday was remembered on Twitter Wednesday.
“Happy birthday and rest in peace Trayvon Martin,” one user Tweeted.
Added another, “Happy birthday Trayvon Martin. I can’t speak for everyone else but I haven’t forgot. Rest in peace baby boy.”
Tweeted another user, “NEVER forget. Happy 18th Birthday Trayvon Martin RIP.”
Martin’s birthday comes as reports indicate that the rapper DMX will fight George Zimmerman--the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed Martin but was later acquitted of murder--in a boxing match in a few weeks.
“I am going to beat the living [expletive] out him … I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I [expletive him right up,” DMX told TMZ.
Zimmerman, 30, has apparently been training for months.
“Prior to the incident I was actually going to the gym for weight loss and doing boxing-type training for weight loss and a mutual friend put me in contact with Damon,” Zimmerman told Radar Online, referring to boxing promoter Damon Feldman.
“(It) provided me with an opportunity and motivation to get back in shape and continue with my weight loss goals and also be able to help a charity out,” Zimmerman added.
However, DMX’s manager said the match hasn’t been officially confirmed.
“The boxing match between George Zimmerman and DMX is not officially confirmed. DMX has promised to ‘beat his [expletive]’, but no contract or paperwork has been signed or agreed to yet. DMX will release an official statement if and when an agreement is made,” publicist Domenick Nati told Time.
