GOSHEN—During a public hearing on Aug. 8, the Town of Goshen heard feedback, mostly from solar and wind company representatives, on the town’s proposed amendment to its zoning code that would regulate wind and solar systems. The main feedback from the representatives centered around the town’s limit of 50 percent of a property’s total acreage that can be used for solar or wind energy generation. Some wanted clarification on things like the definition of a tree, prime agricultural land, and the height of a windmill.

Town Supervisor Doug Bloomfield said the town may have to extend its six-month moratorium scheduled to end in September to incorporate all the feedback, but there will not be another public hearing on the local law. He recommended that anyone considering signing a contract with a solar or wind company seek legal counsel.
