TORONTO—Strapped for cash and solutions, the Toronto Community Housing Corp. (TCHC) spent Tuesday getting suggestions from the public about how to deal with a $751 million repair backlog.
Concerned groups and tenants from some of the TCHC 58,500 units offered their thoughts on everything from the amount of housing needed to the proposal to sell 675 single-unit houses to pay for a part of the repairs.
Most who came to speak said there was a need for more TCHC housing and suggested lobbying the feds and the province to help cover the cost of providing it as well as the cost of fixing units now in disrepair.
