More than 33 years ago, a small vintage-exclusive show came into being in Toronto under the name The “Old” Clothing Show. Over the years, it evolved to suit the taste of a much broader clientele of fashion enthusiasts. Then in 2001 its new incarnation—renamed simply The Clothing Show—was launched to feature not only vintage but other styles as well.
A retail sales event held each spring and fall at Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto, the show seeks to support and promote local talent in an effort to help develop the evolution of art and design in Canada.
Through several grassroots initiatives, The Clothing Show offers the ability for talent, both young and old, to reach the public and express their ideas. Examples of this are the inclusion of various charity booths and the promotion of industry talent on and beyond the runway.
The event features an eclectic mix of emerging talent in clothing and jewellery design for men, women, and children—and at great deals. The fall edition this past weekend featured established local retailers and sample companies with major labels at up to 90 percent off retail prices.
Held Sept. 23–25, the show included revolving runway shows featuring clothing and jewellery designers eager to display the newest trends and must-haves for the season. The following images show a variety of creations by designers who participated in the event.
