Tone Loc Collapses: Rapper Tone Loc, 47, collapsed mid-act on a stage in Des Moines, Iowa, Saturday night. It isn’t the first time the rapper has fainted on stage.
Tone Loc, known for ‘80s rap songs such as “Funky Cold Medina” and “Wild Thing,” collapsed on a Des Moines, Iowa, stage Saturday night at the end of a song.
His publicist has not yet informed media of the cause. Tone Loc, whose real name is Anthony T. Smith, has collapsed because of overheating and exhaustion in the past.
At the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas, in June 2012, the rapper fainted after becoming overheated, reported entertainment news publication TMZ. His manager told TMZ that the theater felt like it was hotter than 100 degrees. Tone Loc took some time to cool off and returned to finish his set after that incident.
In 2011, he was hospitalized in Atlanta after collapsing on stage. His publicist told TMZ at that time that the cause was exhaustion after doing 12 shows in two months.
In 2009, Tone Loc was hospitalized after collapsing at an outdoor concert in Florida. A spokesman for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department told the Associated Press at the time that the rapper had a seizure because of overheating.
