Tommen Baratheon, the brother of Joffrey Baratheon, is going to be made the new king in Game of Thrones.
SPOILERS BELOW:
His brother, Joffrey, was killed at his own wedding. It was revealed in Episode 3 that it was Lord Petyr Baelish, known as “Little Finger.”
In Season 4, Episode 3, Baratheon was essentially chosen as the king in the show. His grandfather, Tywin Lannister, explains to him that “wisdom” is essential to be a good ruler.
Tommen, like Joffrey, is actually the son of Queen Cersei and Jamie Lannister.
According to WinterisComing.com, "According to our sources, the role of Prince Tommen Baratheon has been recast for season 4 and will now be played by Dean-Charles Chapman. Chapman starred in The Revolting World of Stanley Brown, appears in the upcoming film Before I Go To Sleep, and was seen most recently on The White Queen, playing Richard Grey. The choice of Chapman for Tommen may be surprising to some as he previously appeared on GoT playing Martyn Lannister, one of the imprisoned squires killed by the Karstarks in season 3.”
George R. R. Martin, the series creator, explained the circumstances around Joffrey’s death.
“Cersei and Tyrion have, all through the series, been fighting, contesting for control. Tyrion has slapped Joffrey numerous times. Tyrion has threatened Joffrey in ways no one else has dared to do, sometimes right in Cersei’s hearing,” he says in a new video. “Cersei immediately suspects Tyrion and doesn’t think for a moment that it’s an accidental death,” he says.
Martin adds that in reference to Cersei, he says that “someday I’ll get your for this; someday, you’re joy will turn to ashes in your mouth ... Tyrion was also humiliated by Joffrey just moments before ... with dwarves.”
