NEW YORK—At Rockefeller Center on Christmas Day, Alain Puyo and his wife were taking photos and video of their two daughters gliding across the ice.

“We’re just here to do things we can’t do anywhere else in the world,” Puyo said. “It’s spectacular. I mean, this is New York. It’s very special. The structure of the city, the people, the Christmas spirit—New York is a special city. You can’t see it anywhere else in the world.”

My brother and I, we taught a little girl how to figure skate today.
