Some drivers in Guizhou Province have noticed that their cellphones go back an hour in time after passing through a tunnel in Zunyi.

Dubbed the “time tunnel” by locals, the passage was built several years ago, and is over 400 yards long. People started noticing the strange phenomenon during the past year.

A Gui Yang Evening News reporter investigated further, and found that the clock on his cellphone went back one hour 80 percent of the time.

A driver who goes through the tunnel to work every day told the reporter that his phone clock goes back most days, but will return to normal less than a mile after driving out of the tunnel.

Online speculation about what could be causing this ranges from geomagnetic disturbance to a glitch with the local mobile network, as the problem seems to only affect one particular network provider.

Several netizens joked that the underpass is like the 1960s television series called “The Time Tunnel.”
