Tiger Woods, ‘Indefinite’ Break from Professional Golf

Tiger Woods is hanging up his clubs to focus on being a better husband to Elin Nordegren, a better father to Sam and Charlie, and a better person, according to a post on his website.

Woods says that the break is “indefinite.”

For the first time he has used the word “infidelity” to describe his romps with up to six different women.

“I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children,” he said.

“I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.”

Woods asked for understanding from fans, business partners and fellow competitors alike. He has 13 sponsors who have not yet stated whether they will retain or drop Woods.

“What’s most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing,” Woods wrote.

“Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.”
