Friends Read FreeCopyFacebookXTruthGettrLinkedInTelegramEmailSaveThousands of people crowded onto the lawn of the B.C. Legislature Monday to protest the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline. Although organizers had said some demonstrators would engage in acts of civil disobedience and that arrests could be expected, the protest remained peaceful. Many held signs with slogans such as “Enbridge Will Kill Our Coast,” “Not Gonna Happen Steve,” and “Tanker Free B.C. For Me.” The protest, which included speeches and a sit-in and was supported by celebrities such as Mark Ruffalo and Daryl Hannah, aimed to build on the success of other demonstrations against oil sands expansion and proposed pipelines that have taken place in Canada and the U.S. in recent years.
