Karate athletes help unveil Pachi the porcupine as the new mascot for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games in Toronto on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Pachi, selected from over 4,000 entries submitted by groups of kids across the country, was the favourite in an online voting contest that received more than 33,000 votes. “Thanks to the hard work of our young designers, we have a unique and friendly ambassador for our Games that Canadians from coast to coast have embraced,” said Bal Gosal, minister of state for sports, in a statement.
