Don’t you just love watching people bake and cook? There’s something so relaxing about the process of food being produced, especially if you don’t know how it’s made. And if you haven’t had much contact with Turkish culture, you may not have heard a dessert food called “baklava” before.
Most often, baklava is made using large pans with many layers of pastry at the bottom, then a layer of butter, a thick layer of chopped nuts, and then further thin sheets of phyllo until it is completely covered.
Before it goes into the oven it is cut into numerous regular pieces (often diamond shapes as in the video) and covered with a layer of syrup. Halfway through baking, just as the pastry has started to brown, they take the baklava out of the oven and again cover it in syrup, rosewater or orange flower water.
If you ask a Turk what to eat as a Turkish dessert, they’ll likely suggest Baklava!
