TV mogul Oprah Winfrey, who is also the producer of the upcoming drama “The Hundred-Foot Journey” has been using her influence to promote the film far and wide.

Winfrey was the one who picked up the novel, of the same name, by Richard C. Morais and called out to Steven Spielberg to collaborate on producing the film.

During a red carpet event, Winfrey told E News that the film is a universal story.

“The Hundred-Foot Journey” tells the story of an Indian family who moved to a small town in the south of France to set up a restaurant. And while the Kadam family with Papa (Om Puri) in charge tries to establish an ethnic restaurant in a remote French setting, Madame Mallory (Helen Miren) runs a traditional French, Michelin rated, restaurant right across from them. It’s a clash of ethnic with traditional, passionate with the disciplined.

Winfrey and Spielberg, having also worked on the 1985 drama “The Color Purple,” have been in close contact for over 30 years. “In the old newspaper days the story is already over. But in this case it’s just beginning,” Spielberg said about their history of collaborations.

Gayle King, Oprah Magazine editor, said that the film is bound to be a success. “Can you think of a better duo than Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg together?” she said.

“The Hundred-Foot Journey” hits theaters on August 8, 2014.
