Steve Jobs Biography Ready for Release
An authorized biography of the late Apple founder Steve Jobs is expected to be released in three weeks.
The book titled Steve Jobs: A Biography was authored by the former Time Magazine managing editor Walter Isaacson, and is already enjoying huge pre-sale success and achieving No. 1 status on iTunes, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble bestseller lists according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The book’s publisher, Simon & Schuster, has indicated that the launch date has been moved up from Nov. 21 to Oct. 24 in response to public interest.
McCartney Weds in London
Sir Paul McCartney, 69, and New York businesswoman Nancy Shevell, 51, tied the knot in London at the Old Marylebone Town Hall this past weekend, according to People. The bride wore a knee-length ivory dress designed by her new stepdaughter Stella McCartney, who also created her father’s navy blue suit.
Among those in attendance for the nuptials were McCartney’s youngest daughter Beatrice, 7, who served as the flower girl, former bandmate Ringo Starr, and George Harrison’s widow Olivia. Guests from the bride’s side included her son Arlen and her cousin Barbara Walters.
Denzel Washington Supports His Alma Mater
Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington, 56, has made a $2.25 million donation to his alma mater, Fordham University, to establish two theater-related endeavors, according to the university’s website.
Washington, who graduated in 1977, has made a $2 million gift to endow the Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre and a $250,000 gift to establish the Denzel Washington Endowed Scholarship for an undergraduate student studying theater at Fordham.
Actress Phylicia Rashad, best remembered as Clair Huxtable on the hit sitcom The Cosby Show, has joined the Fordham faculty as the university’s first Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre. The first scholarship recipient will likely be announced in the fall of 2012.
Shirley MacLaine Honored for Lifetime Achievement
Legendary actress Shirley MacLaine, 77, has earned the top honor bestowed by the American Film Institute, the AFI Life Achievement Award, which will be presented to her at a gala tribute on June 7, 2012, in Los Angeles.
MacLaine, who won an Oscar for best actress in 1984 for her emotional role in Terms of Endearment, will be the 40th recipient of the award. Her younger brother, Warren Beatty, won the award in 2008. The only other family to have multiple members receive this honor is that of Kirk and Michael Douglas.
