Garth Brooks Wins Million-Dollar Lawsuit
Country singer Garth Brooks has been awarded $1 million in a lawsuit against a hospital in Oklahoma for breach of contract, according to CBS News.
Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital agreed in 2005 to build a women’s health center in honor of the singer’s mother, Colleen Brooks, who died in 1999 of cancer. The project never came to fruition and the hospital used a donation by Brooks for other projects, it was argued. The award was made up of Brooks’s original $500,000 gift to the facility and $500,000 in punitive damages.
Bruce Springsteen to Play Jazz Fest
Rocker Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band have been added to the roster of the upcoming 2012 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Springsteen was a last-minute entry, and many schedule adjustments were made to make room for the legendary musician, according to USA Today.
The festival, which runs April 27–29 and May 3–6 will also feature a Beach Boys reunion, John Mayer, Herbie Hancock, Bonnie Raitt, the Eagles, Eddie Vedder, Tom Petty, and the Foo Fighters, among many others.
Mick Jagger Cancels Appearance in Davos
Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has rescinded his plan to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jagger originally planned to attend as the guest of British PM David Cameron and Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
The singer released a statement saying, “I now find myself being used as a political football and there has been a lot of comment about my political allegiances which are inaccurate. I think it’s best I decline the invitation to the key event and curtail my visit.”
