The Bridge season 2 is wrapping up on Wednesday night and fans are wondering whether it will be canceled or renewed.
FX hasn’t yet announced either way.
But a season 3 renewal is definitely up in the air because ratings have dropped since last season.
Season 1 averaged 1.5 million overall viewers, with 0.5 million in the key 18-49 demographic.
Season 2 was down, prior to the finale, to 1.1 million overall and 0.36 million in the 18-49 demographic.
NPR noted: “The Bridge won a Peabody award for its first season, but it may not get a third act. The show still struggles for an audience, and FX hasn’t said yet whether it will bring the show back.”
It’s also a bad sign that the season 2 renewal came in September 2013, and September 2014 passed with no word on a season 3 renewal.
If there is a renewal, it will likely mean that season 3 would premiere in early July--season 1 started on July 10, 2013 and season 2 kicked off on July 9, 2014.
And if there is a renewal, cast members and producers are ready.
In fact, Diane Kruger told Mike the Fanboy earlier this year that they would like to incorporate current events if they get another season, such as immigration and border patrols.
“Even just yesterday, I was talking to Elwood [Reid, showrunner/writer] about this. We’re [filming] episode 11, so I’m not sure that we’re going to be able to incorporate it this season, but if we should get a Third Season, I think there is definitely a place for that,” she said.
“It’s just actually amazing that while we’re in production how much happens at those borders. I mean we could probably go on for 10 seasons and have stories to tell of people’s crazy journeys. It’s definitely been discussed.”
And Franka Potente (Eleanor) told Zap2It that she’s game for another season.
“I hope I don’t die,” she said. “I can keep doing this for years.”
