Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish was scratched from Tuesday night’s start with neck stiffness, according to a report on MLB’s website.
Apparently, Darvish woke up with the stiffness in his neck and after treatment was unable to loosen it up, he was scratched from his start as a precautionary measure.
“He was disappointed he wasn’t going to start, and we’re disappointed he’s not going to start,” manager Ron Washington said.
Darvish, 26, is 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA over 28 starts in his first season in the majors after coming over from Japan with much fanfare last winter. He has accumulated an impressive 214 strikeouts in 184 and two-thirds innings this season as the Rangers’ number-one starter.
“I really wanted to throw tonight,” Darvish said. “It’s unfortunate that I can’t.”
