Terry Francona lost: The new Cleveland Indians manager, Terry Francona, laughed at himself for losing his way on Monday trying to get to the home opener.

The new manager of the Cleveland Indians, Terry Francona, got turned around three times walking from his apartment to Progressive Field for the home opener on Monday—a distance of two blocks.

He laughed at his own poor sense of direction in an interview on ESPN.

“Even when I got to the garage [at the stadium] two people who work here said, ‘Hey, do you know where you’re going?’ I was like, ‘Nope,’” Francona said.

Someone drove him in a golf cart from that point directly to where he needed to be.

It was a relatively pleasant experience, however, reported Francona. He said people in Cleveland are quite friendly. Everyone greeted him as he passed—“That was a little different than I’m used to,” Francona said.

He managed the Boston Red Sox from 2004–2011, and took a year off before taking the job in Cleveland.

Francona played for the Indians in 1988. As a first baseman and outfielder, Francona played for the Expos, Cubs, Reds, Indians, and Brewers.

His father, John Patsy Francona (nicknamed Tito), played outfield for the Indians from 1959–1964, and gave a ceremonial first pitch on Monday.
