On September the 21st, CBS viewers can expect Ted Danson in the place of Laurence Fishburne on the popular series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Danson agreed to a regular role of a morning shift CSI Supervisor who reunited with the CSI team after leaving his own crime lab in Portland.
Executive producer of the show, Carol Mendelsohn commented on the news in a press release: “You can create a new character on the page, but until the perfect actor comes along and breathes life into it, it’s just words. We’re very excited Ted Danson came along.”
Hopefully Danson will breathe some life into the 12th season of CSI as well. The show is said to be dropping in viewer ratings although it still remains the most-watched television show in the world.
The 63-year-old actor is probably best known for his lead role in the 80’s sitcom ‘Cheers.’ He owns two Emmy’s and three Golden Globe Awards as well as an extensive list of nominations for various categories.
Danson was at the time working on the set of ‘Bored to Death’ an HBO comedy series and is said to continue his appearances alongside his new CSI role.
According to the press release, CSI executive producer Don McGill had Danson in mind as a perfect replacement before the audition.
“From the moment we all started talking about the role, it was clear he couldn’t be more perfect. Intelligence, wit, warmth, depth of character and emotion, he brings it all. And now he’ll have to bring latex gloves, too,” he said.
CSI fans are already commenting on reports how they anticipate Danson’s attempt to fit in with the crime investigation team.
