Teacher dies at Cubs game: A Chicago teacher died at a Cubs game after choking on a hot dog, it was reported.
Maureen Oleskiewicz, 28, was with her brother in the stands at Wrigley Field watching the “National Anthem” on Sunday when she started to choke.
“You could see everyone rushing up to the top of the seating with a frantic look on their face. They performed CPR like I’ve never seen,” witness Brent Olson told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Oleskiewicz, who taught at Independence Junior High School in Palos Heights, was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. She was pronounced dead later. Reports say she was well-liked in the community.
“The Chicago Cubs are saddened to hear news of the untimely death of Maureen Oleskiewicz. We express our deepest sympathy to her family and friends. We will continue to keep her family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” a news release from the teams reads, according to ABC Chicago.
Her brother, Martin, told the Chicago Tribune that no one knew that her airway was obstructed.
“There were no signs she was in distress. She just went down,” said Martin. “They were saying she didn’t have a pulse. It felt hopeless.”
