Star of the recent adaptation of Lois Lowry’s sci-fi drama “The Giver,” Taylor Swift, and big fan of the book of the author said the book had a meaningful impression on her when she read it in 5th grade as part of school curricula.

“It was one of those things that really changed my perspective on a lot of things,” Swift said during a press conference for the film in New York City on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.

“It really kind of blew my mind,” she said. Swift started thinking about the possible outcome of the future of our society.

Fast forward a decade or so later, and the film was getting ready to be adapted when Jeff Bridges was shopping around for directors and producers.

“When I got the script, I just immediately thought, ‘I’m going to say yes to this,’” Swift said.

For Swift it was the opportunity to work with Jeff Bridges, and getting a small but pivotal part that sold it for her.

“The fact that it was a story that stuck with me from my childhood, the fact that it was written by an author I really respect, the fact that it celebrates all the things that I hold dear, and the things that are most important to me like our history and our music and our art and our intellect and our memories,” the 24-year-old singer said.
