Tax-free weekends—or weeks, depending on location—geared toward helping cut back-to-school costs have been announced in 20 states across the nation.
Dates of the event and items that qualify for savings vary from state to state.
In Texas, tax-free weekend will begin at 12:01 A.M. on Friday, Aug. 20 and end at midnight on Sunday, Aug. 22, according to a press release from Texas Tourism.
Shoppers in Texas will save approximately $8 for every $100 spent. Tax-free savings will apply to select clothing items and school supply items that cost less than $100, according to the release.
“Tax-free weekend is a valuable opportunity for both Texans and visitors to experience significant savings,” Julie Chase, chief marketing officer of Texas’s Office of the Governor, Economic Development & Tourism, said.
“Visitors are encouraged to combine the weekend visit with some of the state’s endless attractions, from museums and culture to amusement and water parks.
