Tallulah Hoffman, Willa Hoffman, and Cooper Hoffman were waiting for their father Philip Seymour Hoffman on Sunday.
Hoffman was supposed to pick up the three children, which he had with longtime partner Mimi O‘Donnell. When he failed to show up, O’Donnell called screenwriter David Katz, a friend of Hoffman’s, to go check in on the actor.
Katz and Hoffman’s assistant found the dead body surrounded by envelopes of heroin on Sunday morning.
A source told US Weekly that Hoffman had plans with his children on February 2, and that those included watching the Super Bowl with Cooper, his 10-year-old son.
His two daughters were Tallulah, 7, and Willa, 5.
Hoffman met the mother of his children in 1999 on the set of “In Arabia We'd All Be Kings,” where she was a costume designer. They were together for many years.
However, a source told the Daily Mail that the pair had recently separated, though that hasn’t been confirmed. Hoffman did begin renting a different apartment from the one that he, O'Donnell, and the children had been living in sometime in October 2013.
Hoffman’s family said in a statement:
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone,” the statement read. “This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”
