Taking Back Sunday performed Wednesday along with co-headliners The Used at Best Buy Theater in New York City. It’s been quite a week for the band as they played Best Buy Theater Tuesday night and played an acoustic show Monday at Revolution Bar and Music Hall in Amityville.
They opened up with “Stood a Chance” from their latest album Happiness Is to a sold-out crowd followed by the oldie but goodie “Timberwolves in New Jersey.”
The audience screamed the loudest as they played “You Know How I Do,” “Number Five With a Bullet,” “What’s It Feel Like To Be a Ghost,” and “ Cute Without The E (Cut From The Team).”
“Better Homes And Gardens,” one of the tracks from Happiness Is was as powerful to listen live as it was on the studio version as it focuses on a failed relationship. Lead Singer Adam Lazzara says there’s a long story behind the track but left the audience wondering as to what it is truly about due to time constraints.
They finished off the night with arguably their breakout single “MakeDamnSure.”
Co-Headliners The Used proved to be as energetic as Taking Back Sunday as their set mainly consisted of their old tracks like “Take It Away” and “On My Own” for the exception of “Cry” off their new album Imaginary Enemy.
At one point, frontman Bert McCracken asked the audience to engage in a circle pit as it reminded him of the punk rock scene of the 1980’s.
They closed their set with “A Box Full Of Sharp Objects” that included a brief “Smells Like Teen Spirit” Introduction, something that The Used have done in previous shows.
Tonight Alive and Sleepwave, Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath’s current project kicked things off. Sleepwave will release their debut album in August.
Taking Back Sunday and The Used will perform their third and final show at Best Buy Theater on April 21 due to overwhelming demand before wrapping up the tour in Georgia and Florida next week.
